JoAnne Elaine Witzel Galloway, age 95, died peacefully following an extended illness, called home to be with the Lord on July 1,2023. She was born at Marion General Hospital in Marion, Ohio, on July 2,1927.
JoAnne graduated from Waldo High School and was later employed at the LK Restaurant in Marion, at Whirlpool-Marion, and later as a Nurse's Aide at the Community Medical Center for several years. It was there she found her passion for elder-care; she enjoyed her calling so much that she started privately caring for elderly or terminally ill patients in their homes around Marion County, doing so for almost 30 years. She shared her skills and compassion with 33 patients during those years, and made many lifelong friends.
In 1990, JoAnne married Eugene Galloway of Marion. Together they enjoyed working in the yard, traveling to visit family in Ohio and Florida, and experiencing an Alaskan cruise together. They later moved to the Marietta area in 2011.
She was an active member of St Paul Lutheran Church in Prospect, OH most of her life, and later attended Centenary United Methodist Church in Cutler, OH, after moving from Marietta to Belpre to Cutler to be nearer her son's family.
The accomplishment she was most proud of was her part in the fund-raising and creation of the World War II Veterans Monument in the Marion Cemetery, honoring the military men and women of Marion County.
Joanne is survived by her two children, Susan Wargowsky Bogart of Vandalia, Gary (Mindy) Wargowsky of Cutler; two grandsons, Steve Bogart – Orlando, FL, and Don Wargowsky of Port Ludlow, WA; great-granddaughter Ava Bogart, and many dear nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents Dorothy Lemay Witzel and Milo Witzel, and by her loving husband Gene in 2012.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Centenary United Methodist Church, 10776 St. Rt. 555, Cutler OH 45724
