Earl Livingstone Balis Sr., 83, of Silverton, WV, passed away on Aug. 26, 2022, after a short battle with cancer.
Earl was born on March 2, 1939, to Luther and Velma Balis of Silverton, WV. Earl was a tough-as-nails Ravenswood High School football player, as he was the sole owner of the "cracked helmet" displayed in the trophy case of the high school for many years. Earl graduated from high school in 1957, then enlisted in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves, where he served for several years.
Earl was a pipeline foreman and traveled to Alaska to place the Alaskan Gas Pipeline in the 70's. Earl worked in the pipeline and trucking industry for decades when he recently retired from Belt Transfer.
Earl is preceded in death by his father and mother, Luther and Velma; sister, Emelee (DeVere) Deming; and 3 sons, Mark, Earl II, and Robbie Balis; and many loved ones.
He is survived by his daughter, Stacey (Brad) Call, of Florida; stepdaughter, Deborah (Woody) Hazlett of Pt. Pleasant, West Virginia; daughter-in-law, Celia Balis of Georgia; grandchildren, Sarah (John) Edwards of Florida, Clara (Amanda) Martin of Ohio, Tad (Brittany) Martin of Barboursville, West Virginia, Tyler Balis, Brock (Bethany) Balis, and Madison Balis, all of Georgia, Wyatt and Alexandra Whittington of Florida, Shane Lang and Kristina Rowland of West Virginia; and many great grandchildren. Earl is also survived by a sister, Olive (Guy) Warner; and a brother, Donald (Jean) Balis of Ravenswood. He is loved by countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Roush Funeral Home in Ravenswood on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2022, at 1:30 p.m., with a short graveside service at Ravenswood Cemetery, where we will lay him to rest. Pastor Jeff Burnside will be officiating both services.
The family would like to thank the Hospice Team, Elara Health Team, ER, ICU, fifth floor nurses and doctors at Camden Clark Medical Center, and Melanie Warner for providing compassionate care during Earl's illness.
