Gary Joe Lockhart

Gary Joe Lockhart, 79, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on June 1, 2022, at the William Childs Hospice facility in Palm Bay near his home in Barefoot Bay, Florida.

He was born in Parkersburg, WV, the only son of Chester A. and Virginia G. Lockhart.

He is survived by his loving wife Linda and one son Benjamin Scott [Melanie] Lockhart.

Stepchildren; Elizabeth Postlewaite, Susan Rossiter [John] Hedges, Michael Rossiter and Andrew [Jennifer] Kiehl. He has eleven grandchildren.

He graduated with the class of 1960 from PHS where he was Head Drum Major of the Big Red Band for 2 years. He also attended Boys State. He spent 4 years in the U.S. Navy and graduated from Marshall University.

He was the first manager of the Mid-Ohio Valley Transit Authority when it opened for business in 1976 until his retirement in 2011. The Easy Rider building on Juliana Street is named in his honor.

Joe had a pilot's license and loved to fly. He served in the WV Wing of Civil Air Patrol. He also enjoyed vacationing on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, riding his bicycle and boating on the Ohio River in his Sternwheeler with his wife and friends.

He was an enthusiastic hobbyist. Including photography, pistol shooting competition, beer brewing, stained glass projects and he taught himself to play several musical instruments. He was an avid reader.

He and his wife retired to Florida in 2015. Together they volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels for 6years. Joe attended Eastern Florida State College studying law to become a Paralegal. He volunteered as a mediator at the Brevard County Circuit Court in Viera, Florida. He was cremated and will be buried at the National Cemetery in Mims, Florida at a later date
