Janet Yvonne Honaker Barr, 82, of Elizabeth, WV, passed away December 11, 2021, at WVU Camden Clark Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. Born on Tuckers Creek, Wirt County, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Archie Clay Honaker and Georgia Ruth Somerville Honaker Burrows.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Richard “Dick” Barr, a sister and brother-in-law Violet Kathryn Honaker Coplin and Dearman Coplin and sisters-in-law Wannie Edgel and Jeanie Barr.
Janet was a 1958 graduate of Wirt County High School and a long-time member of the Elizabeth United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and belonged to the Ester Circle. She was a member of the Elizabeth Beauchamp Chapter of American Pioneers where she served as a past Trustee. Janet was also an assistant 4-H leader of the Elizabeth Earnest Workers 4-H Club. As a young high school girl, she worked at the Home Restaurant for a nickel so she could go to the movies and Yonkers Clothing Factory in Parkersburg, making baby clothes. Mrs. Barr was a Deputy County Clerk and Deputy Circuit Clerk for Wirt County, worked for Community for Aging (Community Action), was an avid reader and a loving wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma.
She is survived by a son Greg (Lenore) Barr and a daughter Kelly Barr (BJ) Tanner; grandchildren Stephanie (Geoff) Jarrell, Marsha (Richard) Spiker, Kaitlyn (Nate Thomas) Barr, Joshua Barr, Haleigh (Zack) Drennen and Shania (Caleb) Ferguson; 8 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are entrusted to Matheny Whited Funeral Home of Elizabeth, WV. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 18, 2021, at 11:00am at Matheny Whited Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday, December 17, 2021, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm and one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Knights of Pythias Cemetery, Elizabeth, WV.
