Carla Dawson Dowler

Carla Dawson Dowler passed away on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2021, at her home with her family in Maryland. She was the daughter of Herbert and Joan Dawson. She is survived by her husband, John Dowler: her daughter, Jules Shepard Rasmussen (Jeff) and her son, Jonathan Dowler (Lauren); her grandchildren, Dawson and Hallie Shepard, and Wyatt Dowler; her sisters, Connie Frazier (Craig) and Carol Bialkowski (Alan); and many nieces and nephews.

Carla graduated from PHS in 1967, West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1971, and earned a master's degree from Ohio State University. Carla was passionate about education and children. Her longest post was the Greensboro Day School in North Carolina where she served for 28 years, first as a teacher, then as Lower School Director for 21 years. After retirement, Carla worked for four years at the Epiphany School of Global Studies in New Bern, NC, founded by author Nicholas Sparks, where she helped establish the Lower (elementary) School.

A memorial service was held to celebrate Carla's life at Salem Lutheran Church in Catonsville, Maryland, December 13,2021.
