Larry Richard Allen, 78, of Parkersburg, WV, departed this life on Sunday morning, June 14, 2020, at his residence.
Larry was born January 24, 1942, in Parkersburg, WV, son of the late Charles and Virginia Allen. He was a 1960 graduate of Parkersburg High School, attended Fairmont College, and retired from Borg Warner/General Electric after 35 years of service.
Larry simply loved life and the God that authors it. Larry leaves a legacy in the community inspired by the countless hours he dedicated to the area's youth. Whether leading church youth groups, coaching all ages of baseball, volunteering with the Wood County Recreation Commission, or assisting with Parkersburg High School athletics, Larry did so with a positive attitude, light heart and infectious spirit. Larry also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping but most of all, he loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his friends and family, especially his four grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Judy (Layne) Allen; children, Mike (Monica) Allen of Davisville, WV; Lori (Allan) Richards of Vincent, OH; grandchildren, Emily and Ashley Allen of Davisville, WV; Layne and Taylor Richards of Vincent, OH.
A service to celebrate Larry's life will be held at 11:00 am Thursday at Leavitt Funeral, Parkersburg, WV; Pastor Eric Tucker will be officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 17, 1 pm. to 2 p.m. (for those 65 and older, who are more susceptible to COVID-19) and 2 to 4 and 5 – 8 for the general public and for a one-hour visitation prior to the service on Thursday. Burial will take place directly after the funeral at Evergreen Cemetery North on Emerson Avenue, Parkersburg, WV.
In lieu of flowers the Larry's family requests memorial contributions be made to the Liberty Street Church Youth Fund, 1301 Liberty Street, Parkersburg, WV 26101.
