Marilyn E. Hayhurst

Marilyn E. Hayhurst, 73, of Pennsboro, WV, departed this life on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, at her residence, following her courageous and inspiring journey with her extended illness, surrounded by her loving family.

Marilyn was born September 12, 1946 in Pennsboro, WV a daughter of the late Phelps Taylor and Arlene (McCullough) Taylor Snyder of Pennsboro, WV. She was a proud graduate of Pennsboro High School with the class of 1964 where she was a cheerleader and member of the Pep Club. She had tons of fond memories of Pennsboro High School and the school held a special place with Marilyn. She went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Glenville State College in 1968.

Marilyn returned to Pennsboro, WV and began her 33 1/2 year teaching career in 1968, at Creed Collins Elementary School. Throughout her teaching career, Marilyn influenced many students and her life centered around educating the youth of Ritchie County. Her students adored her and she was well respected in the Ritchie County Educational System.

She has been an active member of the Pennsboro Church of Christ for 61 years where she taught many Bible classes to children over the years. She valued Christianity, the Holy Bible, and was passionate about her beliefs. She was also a member of the Pennsboro Woman’s Club and was highly regarded in her community. She was an avid reader, loved traveling with her close friends and family, and greatly enjoyed socializing throughout her community.

During her journey with her illness, Marilyn remained a positive spirit with her family and friends. She was a very determined and strong-willed woman who served as a positive role model and inspiration to others; and she loved being a grandma and having the title of, “MeeMee.”

In addition to her mother Arlene, she is survived by her best friend and high school sweetheart, Steve Hayhurst who have been married for 52 years; her daughter, Stephanie Hayhurst-Hall (Jason) of Pennsboro, WV, and her two grandchildren, Carson and Sophia Hall. She also leaves behind her loving siblings, Paula Garner (Terry) of Vienna, WV; Ellie Blankenship of Harrisville, WV; Phelps Pete Taylor (Debbie) of Pennsboro, WV, and Diane Beall (Roscoe) of Canaan Valley, WV. Nieces and nephews, Jason Garner (Heidi); Johnny Garner (Kecia); Julie Garner Moser (Steve); Kara Blankenship Spillman (Johnny); Kristen Blankenship Hopson (Justin); Valerie Taylor Neill (Tim); Jordan Taylor (Jessica); Katherine Beall; Elizabeth Beall Gregory (Adam); Susan Beall DiPetta (Michael); Mitchell Beall (Milly), along with 25 great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her step father, Bobbie D. Snyder.

Funeral services will be 11am, Saturday, November 9, 2019, at the Pennsboro Church of Christ, 205 E. Penn Ave, Pennsboro, WV 26415 with the Evang. Terry Jones officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Mt. Harmony Masonic Cemetery in Pennsboro, WV. Visitation will be from 2pm-8pm on Friday, at the McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro, WV.

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations in Marilyn’s name be made to the Childrens Home Society of WV, PO Box 2942, Charleston, WV, 25330.
