Ovie Edwin Nohe, 78, of Parkersburg, West Virginia, passed over into his forever life on Sunday evening October 29th, 2017, at around 10:35 pm at Camden Clark Medical Center after a sudden onset of cardiac complications with his daughter and nephew by his side. He was born in the hollers of Jackson County West Virginia, on November 7th, 1938, to Ora Sheppard Nohe and Dock Nohe. He was the seventh born of two girls and five boys. Ovie attended Parkersburg High School and graduated in the Spring of 1958 with his focus on Sheet Metal Trade and Training. He entered the United States Air Force in April of 1959 and proudly served his country until April of 1965. Upon discharge from the service he returned to the Bellville, West Virginia, area and began his lengthy career as a Sheet Metal Worker. He retired from the Sheet Metal Workers Union, Local 33 in the Spring of 1991 with over 30 years of dedicated and demanding work.
Ovie, or "Ed" as most of his friends and family referred to him, was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, four wheeling, bluegrass music and festivals, spending time in his camper on property where he was born and raised in Jackson County. You could often find him sitting outside in his lawn chair enjoying a cold beer and just watching nature. Ed was also an avid Harley rider and road his "trike" as he called it, up until last year for enjoyment, much to his daughters' dismay. He participated in many Harley sponsored poker runs for fun and as benefits to raise money for various events and causes in West Virginia and Florida. After retirement he eventually bought a "snow bird" house in Fort Pierce, Florida, where he spent his winters, but he always migrated home to West Virginia every Spring.
Ed was also a long-time member of the DAV, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Moose Club, American Legion and the Amvets just to name a few. He took an active role and was a long-time supporter of veterans and took part in all veteran related/sponsored activities. You could often find him at one of his clubs on Saturday nights with his friends enjoying a local band and cutting the rug on the dance floor. Ovie Edwin lived a full 78 years. He did everything on his own terms, exactly as he wanted. He worked hard, lived hard and played harder. He was known to many as a friend, Uncle, companion, Dad and his greatest joy a Pap to his two grandchildren that he loved with all his heart.
Proceeding Ovie in death was his Mother, Ora Sheppard Nohe; his Father, Dock Nohe; his first wife of 18 years, Carolyn Sue Lent Nohe; two sisters, Lena Pifer and Margie Rawson; two brothers, Jack Nohe and Ronald Nohe; and one nephew, Steven Nohe.
