Robert E. Lowe Sr. 89 of Elizabeth, WV, passed away Monday afternoon, April 24, 2017.
He was born, May 17, 1928, in Elizabeth, WV, a son of the late Floyd and Melissa "Sissie" Cooper Lowe.
He was a graduate of Wirt County High School, Class of 1947. Following graduation, he owned and operated the Theater Restaurant in Elizabeth until enlisting in the U.S. Army where he proudly served his country as a private first class during the Korean War. Later he was employed by DuPont Washington Works in Washington, WV, until his retirement in 1985. He was a long-standing member of the American Legion Post 55 in Elizabeth.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gayle Caltrider Lowe, two children, Robert (Cindy) Lowe and Richard Lowe, both of Elizabeth; one brother, Floyd "Mutt" Lowe of Elizabeth and one sister, Gathalea Lowe Uhrain of Creston, OH; two grandchildren, Robert Matthew (Wendy) Lowe of Huntington, WV, and Kristina Logan Lowe of Elizabeth and two "same as" grandchildren, Wyatt and Shelby Simonton of Elizabeth.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Lloyd "Jeff" Lowe, Benjamin "Jack" Lowe, Bernard Lowe and Pearl & Percy Lowe and one sister, Alberta Lowe Higgins.
Services will be Thursday, at 11 a.m. at Matheny Whited Funeral Home of Elizabeth with Rev. Lee Williams officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of the service. Interment will be at the Knights of Pythias Cemetery in Elizabeth, WV.
