Gale Franklin “Frank” Keen

Gale Franklin “Frank” Keen, 92, of Spencer, died April 21, 2017, at the Roane General Hospital, Spencer.

He was born December 20, 1924 at Newton, the son of the late Okey and Losa Wright Keen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, of 65 years, Alta V. Brannon Keen; three sisters, Ann Lowe, Carol Anderson and Jo Budd.

Survivors include his sister, Bobbie Webb of Huntington; and a very special friend, Linda A. White.

He graduated from Spencer High School with the class of 1942. He loved to fish and hunt with his buddies.

Frank was employed by Federal Civil Service as an Administrative/Supply Technician for the Army National Guard in Spencer. He remained on this job for 32 years until his retirement in 1980.

He joined the Army in July 1943, took basic training in Texas, then went to the Pacific and was assigned to the 7th Infantry Division, 17th Infantry Regiment. He saw action on Leyte Island, where he was wounded. The Division then landed on Okinawa on 1 April 1945, when the war ended, went to Korea until rotation to the U.S. He was discharged 6 January 1946.

Frank was a member of the American Legion Post 21, V.F.W. Post 5959, 17th Infantry Association, 7th Division Association, Military Order of the Purple Heart and the N.R.A.

Per his request, he has been cremated. There will be no services or visitation.
