Mary Agnes Williams Simmons, 97, of St. Marys, W.Va. (formerly of Pennsboro, W.Va.), departed this life on Monday, November 14, 2016, at Carehaven of Pleasants in Belmont, W.Va.
Mary was born September 15, 1919, in West Union, W.Va. (Arnolds Creek) a daughter of the late Franklin M. and Mary Francis (Cottrill) Samples.
Mary worked in the garment industry of Ritchie County for 13 years as a seamstress in the factories of Pennsboro and Cairo. After the garment factory, Mary went to work at Pine View Nursing Home of Harrisville, W.Va. She was Methodist by faith and was a very hard worker, loved gardening and her farm animals. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly and was very proud of them.
Mary became known as "grandma" while she was a resident of Carehaven of Pleasants. She had a special relationship with the staff as well as the other residents during her time and the family wishes to thank the loving staff at Carehaven for their love and care they showed Mary.
She is survived by her children, Patsy Kiser (Vern) of Cambridge, Ohio, Roger Williams (Mary) of Ellenboro,W.Va., Edwin Williams (Debbie) of Walker, W.Va., David Williams (Vickie) of Cairo, W.Va., Randy Simmons (Cheryl) of St. Marys, W.Va.; grandchildren, Richard Sams, Sondra Carey, Diana Sams, Carla Sams, Crystal Sams, Teresa Hardbarger, Katrina Gummer, Eddie Williams, Betsy Robinson, Joshua Williams, Jennifer Williams, Lisa Rawson, Michael Simmons; 23 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Edgar Dale Williams; second husband, Dewey D. Simmons; daughter, Dora Williams; sisters, Dessie Hart, Maysel Bee, Marie Miller, Lillie Caldwell, Isabella Young, Frankie McAtee; and brothers, Harry, Alva, Ralph, Woodrow and Clifton Samples.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, November 17, 2016, at the McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro, W.Va., with Rev. Bill Dawson officiating. Burial will follow in the Cabin Run Cemetery in Doddridge County, W.Va. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
