MARIETTA — The Washington County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports:

* A deputy began an investigation Friday into a burglary in Belpre Township. The uncharged suspect returned the items and the victim then refused to file charges.

* A deputy was dispatched Friday to a report of an intoxicated driver on Ohio 7 heading to Marietta. The deputy observed a vehicle matching the description given and began to follow the vehicle. The vehicle continued crossing into the passing lane and swerving across the fog line prior to the stop. The deputy utilized his overhead lights and siren in which the driver of the vehicle continued driving. The deputy then pulled alongside the vehicle and identified the driver as Scott Carpenter and motioned for him to pull over, which he did. Contact was made with Carpenter and an odor of alcohol was detected on his person and his eyes were glazed. Carpenter’s speech was slurred and after exiting the vehicle he was unsteady on his feet. Carpenter stated he only had one beer. Carpenter submitted to a PBT and the results of the test were .201. Scott Lee Carpenter, 58, of 415 1/2 Third St., Marietta, was placed under arrest and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, driving under suspension, lane straddling, turn and stop sign violation, OVI, and driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs within 20 years of previously being convicted.

* A deputy began an investigation Saturday into telephone harassment.

* A deputy was dispatched Saturday to the Washington County Jail for a vandalism complaint. It was reported inmate Justin Gibbs was speaking with a corrections officer when he became irate. Gibbs reportedly struck the security glass window in the outer area of a dorm. This impact caused the window to crack causing a large straight line in the outer pane of the window. Justin Tyler Gibbs, 29, of 111 Putnam St., Marietta, was charged with vandalism.

* A lieutenant responded Sunday to Reynolds Run Road, Newport, to a report that Jeremiah Foster was drunk and violent. The victim had left the home, and prior to arrival a second call was received stating Foster was on the floor bleeding. It was reported that after the initial altercation, Foster had rammed his head into the glass on the front door, causing a laceration that was bleeding. Jeremiah Dean Foster, 36, was transported for medical treatment and then taken into custody and processed into the jail on a charge of domestic violence.
