PARKERSBURG - Local nature photographer Shannon R. Hammer will exhibit her photography at WesBanco Bank during September.

Hammer is an independent photographer and visual artist.

"My photographs are often mistaken for the oil canvas paintings from long ago," Hammer said.

Like those artists who strive to create depth through different layers of pigment applied over time, she also uses a similar technique when applying her final edits to the images she has been able to capture, according to a press release from WesBanco.

She has exhibited at the Blennerhassett Hotel and the Parkersburg Art Center. Hammer exhibited this past winter on Marco Island, Fla., at multiple Art Walks.

Her love of photography began after having been diagnosed with breast cancer.

She and her husband set out together to the Everglades of Florida to reflect during this time on the blessings in their lives as she sought to find "peace in nature," according to the press release.

She is a five-year cancer survivor.

Hammer's images are mainly captured in West Virginia except for a few of the endangered species she captured while visiting the Florida Everglades and surrounding areas.

The exhibit will be on display at WesBanco Bank, 415 Market St., during September. The exhibit may be viewed during regular business hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.

Starting at /week.
