Wood County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the Shaver Judicial Annex Monday morning in response to an incident in a courtroom. Sheriff Rick Woodyard said a juvenile defendant was not complying with instructions and started a physical altercation with court officers. They radioed for help and all available units responded, as Woodyard said such an incident is considered “a very serious issue.” The subject was detained and escorted out of the building by a number of court officers, put in a vehicle and taken away. Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene from WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center. Woodyard said there were no injuries among the court personnel. The subject returned for another hearing later in the day and got into another altercation with court officers. Because the individual is a juvenile, Woodyard said he could not give specific details about what was happening in the court that led the suspect to act out.
