Bill for company that helped fight the Peoples Cartage fire being paid

PARKERSBURG - A bill to one of the companies that helped fight the Peoples Cartage warehouse fire in early July is being paid, Wood County officials said.
In an email to the county commission, Steve Sansevere, regional manager warehouse operations for the Mid-Ohio Valley for Peoples Cartage Inc., said the check had been sent to the county to pay the outstanding bill to SPSI in its efforts to fight the warehouse fire in early July.
"Please be advised that the check for services provided by SPSI has been issued to The Wood County Commission in the amount of $280,069.24," Sansevere said in the email. "Hope this resolves all matters resulting from the incident from July 5."
The email indicated the check was sent Sept. 18. On Thursday, County Administrator Marty Seufer confirmed the county received the check and was preparing to pay the SPSI bill.
A fire at the warehouse complex July 5 sent a thick plume of black smoke into the air. Multiple fire departments responded over a number of days. A no-fly zone at the site was in effect during the fire.
The county called in SPSI, based in Washington, Pa., to help with the fire. The company previously came to the area in 2017 to help deal with the IEI warehouse fire. SPSI specializes in hazmat, environmental and industrial emergency response.
The company brought in two large pumps that were able to utilize water from the Little Kanawha River to help fight the fire.
Commissioners commended the company for responding so quickly to help them at Peoples Cartage and felt to maintain their good relationship with the company that the bill needed to be paid as soon as possible.
