PARKERSBURG - A candidate for the House of Delegates is set for a hearing on a charge of domestic battery involving his father later this month.
Justin Matthew Beanard, 137 Onward Road, Williamstown, is running for the House of Delegates seat for District 10. He was arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court in February.
According to the criminal complaint, on Dec. 15, Wood County sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence on New England Ridge Road in Washington, W.Va., in reference to a domestic incident in progress. The alleged victim in the incident was Timothy Beanard, Justin's father.
"Upon arrival Justin Matthew Beanard … shouted something to the effect of ‘he called on me I'll save you the trouble,'" according to the report written by Deputy W.D. Riddle.
“Upon speaking with (Timothy Beanard), he advised that (Justin Beanard) had shoved him while making entry into the home to gather belongings," Riddle wrote in the report. "(Timothy Beanard) advised that due to a knee surgery that had been conducted on Feb. 3 that year he was unable to maintain balance and fell against the wall and washer.
"I then observed the victim to have a large scar on his knee and a small dent near the drier."
Deputy P.M. Snodgrass then entered the residence and advised that Justin Beanard stated to him that he had shoulder checked Timothy Beanard while making entry into the house and caused him to fall, Riddle wrote.
"I then spoke with (Justin Beanard) and asked if he had `shoulder checked' (Timothy Beanard)," Riddle wrote. "The defendant confirmed that he had."
Following the canvass of the May primary election, Beanard defeated longtime incumbent Republican Bill Anderson 829-826. Anderson did not seek a recount.
Beanard is facing Democratic candidate Christopher Jones of Williamstown in the Nov. 3 general election.
A hearing on the domestic battery charge is set for 9 a.m. on Sept. 23 before Wood County Magistrate Brenda Marshall.
Beanard was contacted for a comment on the matter, but had not provided one as of Tuesday.
