VIENNA – A Vienna home sustained heavy damage in a Monday afternoon fire.
At around 1 p.m., fire crews were dispatched to 4301 9th Ave. in Vienna to a report of a structure fire.
“There were active flames coming out of the kitchen and a sunroom area,” said Vienna Fire Chief Steve Scholl.
The Vienna Volunteer Fire Department received assistance from the Waverly Volunteer Fire Department and the Williamstown Volunteer Fire Department. Camden Clark Ambulance and the Vienna Police Department were also on the scene assisting.
All of the occupants of the house were able to get out safely and no one was hurt, the chief said.
It took crews 20 minutes to knock down the fire and had it completely extinguished, including hot spots, within an hour, Scholl said.
“The house is not livable,” Scholl said. “There was quite a bit of internal damage from heat, smoke and water.”
There were 15 total firefighters who responded from the three departments as well as four fire engines.
One of the fire fighters had to be checked medically as he was overcome by heat, Scholl said.
The cause has not been determined yet. The fire remains under investigation by the Wood County Fire Investigation Team.
