Vienna receives most from latest firearms auction
CHARLESTON – The Vienna Police Department received the most funds from the recent firearms auction conducted by the West Virginia state treasurer’s office.
The agency received $6,934.14, its share of the $60,492 high bid from the online auction that closed mid-June, Treasurer Larry Pack said. Vienna had 61 items in the sale.
No. 2 was the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department with 56 items and a share of $6,133.38.
The winning bid was presented by a licensed federal firearm dealer in West Virginia.
Two firearms auctions were held this year and the latest was the seventh overall auction since 2025.
More than 15 bids were submitted from licensed dealers spanning across nine states. The state auctioned 489 firearms from 18 law enforcement agencies in West Virginia.
“Safer communities are crucial to a better West Virginia. That is why we must do everything in our power to support these departments,” Pack said. “This online auction was a success in terms of participation both from law enforcement and firearm dealers placing bids, as well as the value we received that will go back to those agencies.”
The Parkersburg Police Department also participated in the auction with 26 items that raised $2,636.76.
Other participating agencies were Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office; Harrison County Sheriff’s Office; Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office; Morgantown Police Department; the Mountain Region Drug and Violent Crime Task Force; Preston County Sheriff’s Office; Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office; Randolph County Sheriff’s Office; Weston Police Department; the state Division of Natural Resources Police Beckley, French Creek and Romney Detachments; and the State Police Clay, Parsons, Romney and Wayne detachments.
Last year, the treasurer’s office sold 2,347 firearms for $452,073 from one in-person live auction and five online auctions.
