MARIETTA -- GoPacks has named Jessica Potts the inaugural recipient of the Alicia McIntire Scholarship, according to a release from the organization.
Potts is studying leadership at Mount Vernon Nazarene University.
"What impressed me about Jessica during the application review process was the self-awareness that she demonstrates," GoPacks board member Katie Wolfe said in the release. "She can envision a future for herself where she is using her skills to help others, and that is exactly the type of person we were hoping to inspire."
Wolfe said GoPacks will provide Potts with support and encouragement during the remainder of her higher education.
The scholarship was established in memory of McIntire, a GoPacks team member and longtime Marietta educator who died May 31, 2025. McIntire served Marietta City Schools for more than two decades as a classroom teacher and administrator, including as principal of Washington Elementary School.
A Marietta native, McIntire attended local schools and graduated from Marietta High School in 1996. She later earned a degree from Ohio University and began her teaching career in 1999.
McIntire taught at North Hills Elementary School, Marietta Middle School and Putnam Elementary School before moving into school administration. Her children attended Putnam Elementary while she taught there.
According to the release, the scholarship will support one student at a time throughout the student's higher education rather than selecting a different recipient each year.
GoPacks provides food and other resources to students and families. Its programs address food insecurity and promote educational achievement, personal growth and community involvement.
