PARKERSBURG — The city of Parkersburg presented $10,000 to The Arc of the Mid-Ohio Valley on Tuesday to support energy-efficient lighting improvements at the organization’s facility.

Mayor Tom Joyce presented the funding to Michelle Curtis, executive director of The Arc of the Mid-Ohio Valley, during a check presentation at South Parkersburg Baptist Church. The presentation was held in conjunction with the organization’s Inclusive Summer Day Camp.

The funding is part of the city’s fiscal year 2027 community investment strategy. The money will be used to replace existing lighting throughout The Arc’s facility with energy-efficient LED fixtures.

According to a release, the upgrades are expected to reduce operating costs and allow the organization to direct more money toward programs and services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

“The Arc of the Mid-Ohio Valley has long been a champion for inclusion, and opportunity for individuals with developmental disabilities,” Joyce said. “This investment will ensure more of the organization’s resources can be devoted directly to the people and families they serve. The city is proud to support their important mission.”

Curtis said the project was tied to a need for updated lighting throughout The Arc’s building.

“Our application was related to our need to update to LED lighting throughout our building,” Curtis said. “These improvements are expected to generate annual energy savings, allowing The Arc to invest additional resources into our programs and services. We are grateful for the city’s support and commitment to organizations that make a meaningful difference in our community.”

The Arc of the Mid-Ohio Valley serves individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through advocacy, support services and inclusive programming, according to the release. The release said the organization’s work is intended to “empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live, learn, work and participate fully in community life.”

City officials said the lighting project is expected to provide long-term savings for The Arc, while helping the organization continue services for individuals and families in the Mid-Ohio Valley.

Starting at $3.70/week.
