“One Vote” writers to talk about show

ATHENS – Two writers of a local musical that is part of the America 250th celebration will be the speakers at noon Thursday at the Southeast Ohio History Center Lyceum Luncheon Speaker Series at 24 West State St. in Athens.

Singer-songwriters Larry Groce and Todd Burge wrote their original “One Vote! – the Musical” based on the founders of Marietta, Ohio and Ohio University between 1786 and 1820.

Burge is affiliated with Peoples Bank Theatre and the Esbenshade Series at Marietta College. Groce is co-founder of National Public Radio program Mountain Stage in Charleston, W.Va., where Burge has appeared multiple times.

“One Vote” opens 7 p.m. July 17 at the Hermann Fine Arts Center at Marietta College. Other shows are scheduled at 7 p.m. July 18, July 24 and July 25 and 2:30 p.m. July 19 and July 26.
