Wood County Democratic Executive Committee slates organizational meeting
PARKERSBURG – The Wood County Democratic Executive Committee will hold its organizational meeting – including nominations and elections for committee chair, secretary and treasurer – at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 4, at the Parkersburg-Marietta Building & Construction Trades Drug & Education office at 2400 Garfield Ave., Parkersburg.
Officers must be registered Democrats residing in Wood County. Officer positions are:
* Chair – The duties of the chair are to call meetings, set agendas, preside over regular and special meetings and provide general reports at each meeting.
* Vice Chair – The duties of the Vice-Chair are to assist the chair as needed and to fulfill the duties of the chair when the chair is unavailable. The vice chair must be of a different gender than the chair.
* Secretary – The secretary will be responsible for keeping all the records of the county committee, including committee reports; keeping and signing all minutes and other certified acts of the committee; maintaining the official documents, including standing rules and minutes; and referencing an official document of the committee when called upon to do so during a meeting. In the absence of the chair and vice chair, the secretary shall call meetings to order and preside until the immediate election of a chair pro tem.
* Treasurer – The treasurer shall receive all committee funds and disburse them on order of the committee or chair. They shall make a report of all receipts and disbursements at each regularly scheduled and special committee meeting. They shall file all financial reports with the West Virginia Secretary of State’s office as required by state law.
All officer terms are for four years, ending on July 1, 2030, or earlier if their successors are elected before then. Officers do not need to be a member of the county executive committee. Officers who are not also elected members of the committee shall not have a vote, except if the chair is not an elected member of the committee, the chair may vote only to break a tie vote of the elected members.
Nominations and elections for any unfilled magisterial district seats on the Executive Committee will also be held during this meeting. Candidates must be a registered Democrat and reside in one of the voting precincts comprising the district for the seat.

Nominations for all offices will be made at the meeting by county executive committee members representing the geographical political subdivisions in their county. The person making the nomination will state the name of the person they nominate. Members can self-nominate. Nominations do not need to be seconded.
When nominations are closed, the person making the nomination will have two minutes to speak in favor of their nomination. All candidates nominated for each position will have two minutes to speak.
Only members of the Wood County Democratic Executive Committee may vote. A roll call vote will be taken.
