Man loses life in Washington County auto accident

MARIETTA — A Paden City man was killed in an accident Saturday morning in Marietta, the Marietta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

Alex S. Doak, 31, was killed at the intersection of Cogswell Lane and Ohio 7 (Pike Street) where he was attempting to turn onto Ohio 7, the patrol said.

Cody Engnes, 31, of Marietta was eastbound on Ohio 7 operating a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Doak, operating a 2018 Ford Escape, was northbound on Cogswell Lane attempting to turn left onto Route 7 westbound, the patrol said.

Jennifer White, 42, Marietta, was westbound on Ohio 7 in a 2022 Toyota Highlander and stopped at the red light at Cogswell Lane, the patrol said.

Kermit N. Stoffel, 77, of Marietta also was westbound on Ohio 7 in a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and stopped at the red light at Cogswell Lane, the patrol said.

Engnes failed to stop at the light and struck Doak as he attempted to turn onto Ohio 7, the patrol said.

Engnes and a passenger in his vehicle, Stephanie Cutlip, 28, of Ravenswood were taken to Marietta Memorial Hospital for their injuries, the patrol said.

Doak was pronounced deceased at the scene, the patrol said. No injuries were reported to White and her passenger or to Stoffel.

All occupants were reportedly wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash, the patrol said.

Tree Towing and the Ohio Department of Transportation also responded to the accident, the patrol said.

The accident remains under investigation by the Marietta Post. The accident happened around 11:10 a.m., the patrol said.
