Jackson County man accused of shooting father with crossbow
Chase Fleming
RIPLEY – A man authorities say shot his father in the face with a crossbow was arrested Wednesday. Chase Fleming, no age or addressed listed, was in custody by early Wednesday morning following “a very lengthy foot pursuit and tracking event through parts of snow-covered Jackson and Roane Counties,” the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department reported on its Facebook page. “The victim is still alive and in stable condition at CAMC General Hospital,” the post said. “Fleming has been admitted as well for observation after deputies attempted to get him medically cleared for incarceration.” Fleming is charged with one count of malicious assault, with other charges possible once the case is reviewed by the grand jury, the post said. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department expressed its appreciation to deputies in both Roane and Kanawha counties, West Virginia State Police, the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources and others “who came and helped with the exhausting search.” Bond has yet to be set. A representative from the Jackson County Magistrate Court said Wednesday they had not received the paperwork on this case yet. The post did not indicate when or where the crossbow shooting took place, although published reports indicate it happened Tuesday in the Kenna area. Additional information was not available from the sheriff’s department Wednesday afternoon.
