RIPLEY — A man authorities say shot his father in the face with a crossbow was arraigned late Thursday afternoon in Jackson County Magistrate Court.
Chase Fleming, 35, 79 Aspen Ridge, Apt. 1, Gay, was arraigned Thursday on a charge of malicious assault before Magistrate Timra Milhoan. He is being held on a $250,000 bond, a clerk in Milhoan’s office said Friday. If bond is met, there is a requirement Fleming would be put on home confinement with monitoring in place, the clerk added.
Fleming was arrested Wednesday morning following “a very lengthy foot pursuit and tracking event through parts of snow-covered Jackson and Roane Counties,” the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department reported on its Facebook page.
Other charges could be possible once the case is reviewed by the grand jury, the post said.
According to the criminal complaint filed in Magistrate Court, around 2 p.m. Tuesday Jackson County 911 received a call of a man being shot in the face with a crossbow at 260 Lightning Lane in Kenna.
The caller said her brother, Fleming, shot their father, John Fleming, in the face, the complaint said.
Jackson County deputies arrived on the scene, where blood was observed and John Fleming was laying on the couch with a pillow covering the left side of his face.
The sister said the two were arguing over a pistol in the house that belonged to the elder Fleming. The argument started over the phone and continued when Chase Fleming came to the house.
The criminal complaint said Chase Fleming entered the home with the loaded crossbow, the two argued and he shot John Fleming with the crossbow.
According to the criminal complaint, Chase Fleming realized the severity of what he did and offered to take his father to the hospital, but the sister did not let him.
Chase Fleming left the residence in a white Ram Powerwagon pickup to an unknown destination.
John Fleming was transported to the CAMC General Hospital, where the sheriff’s office Facebook post said he was in stable condition. An update on his condition was not immediately available Friday.
