PARKERSBURG — No injuries were reported in a Tuesday morning fire on 7th Street in Parkersburg.
The Parkersburg Fire Department was dispatched to 1724 7th Street at 8:38 a.m.
“It was a small commercial building that has been vacant for some time,” Matthews said.
Crews arrived on the scene at 8:40 a.m. The fire department attacked the fire internally while water was supplied from a nearby hydrant.
“They had the fire out within 20 minutes of arrival,” Matthews said. “The fire did originate in the basement area.”
Firefighters took a line into the front of the building and also went in with a line through an access point to the basement around back.
“They extinguished the fire from the first floor and basement areas,” Matthews said.
The hydrant was on the other side of the street, so 7th Street had to be closed for about an hour to run a line to the hydrant.
No one was at the property at the time of the fire.
The department responded with their standard 15 firefighters, the command vehicle, rescue vehicle, four engines, a ladder and tower trucks.
Crews cleared the scene at 10:50 a.m.
Matthews said it will be up to the insurance company to determine if the building is a loss. There is fire damage on the first floor and the basement as well as heat and water damage throughout.
A cause has not been determined as the investigation is ongoing, Matthews said.
