Driver pronounced dead in one-vehicle crash in Pomeroy

POMEROY — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a one-vehicle crash into the Ohio River that was reported at about 8:40 p.m. Monday in Pomeroy.

According to the patrol, a vehicle traveling westbound on East Main Street drove off the right side of the roadway, struck a utility pole and then crossed the roadway before entering the Ohio River.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A juvenile occupant was recovered safely from the vehicle and transported by emergency medical personnel for treatment. The juvenile’s condition was not immediately available.

Crews remained on scene late Monday night, working to recover the vehicle from the river.

Assisting agencies included the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office, Pomeroy Police Department, Middleport Police Department, Meigs County EMS, Pomeroy Fire Department, Syracuse Fire Department, Ravenswood Fire Department and Little Hocking Fire Department.

The crash remains under investigation.
