Brine truck catches fire on US 50
PARKERSBURG – A brine truck caught fire along the eastbound lanes of U.S. 50 near the Interstate 77 interchange Sunday evening, the chief of the East Wood Volunteer Fire Department said.
The truck is referred to as a “water bottle” which describes a brine truck, said East Wood Volunteer Fire Department Chief Ron Utt.
Crews responded to the fire at 4:53 p.m. The East Wood Volunteer Fire Department, the Mineral Wells Volunteer Fire Department and the Wood County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. East Wood had six firefighters and Mineral Wells had nine.
Utt said they are not certain what caused the fire, but crews think it was electrical in nature.
“It started in the engine and got into the cab,” Utt said.
It took 15 minutes to get under control.
Crews shut down the eastbound traffic lanes for about an hour, Utt said.
No injuries were reported.
Before 6 p.m., fire crews were still hitting hot spots, said a supervisor at the Wood County 911 Center. Crews also had one eastbound lane open at that time.
