A look at who is running in Wood, Washington primaries

PARKERSBURG – All of the candidates have filed to run for the May primary which will be on Tuesday, May 5 in Ohio and Tuesday, May 12 in West Virginia.
In Ohio, two countywide offices and one state House of Representatives seat are on the ballot in Washington County for the May 5 primary election.
Incumbent county Commissioner Eddie Place, of Little Hocking, faces a challenge in the Republican primary from Lowell resident Stephanie Lang. Stockport resident Brian G. Whalin is unopposed for the Democratic nomination.
Incumbent Auditor Matthew Livengood, a Republican, is the only candidate to have filed for that office.
There’s one candidate in each primary for the Ohio House District 94 seat, setting up a rematch between Republican Rep. Kevin Ritter of Marietta and Democrat Wenda Sheard of Athens.The 94th District includes Washington, Meigs and a portion of Athens County.
Four levies have also been submitted for the ballot: an additional five-year, 0.95-mill levy for the Washington County Board of Developmental Disabilities, an additional 10-year, 0.5-mill levy for the Washington County Public Library, an additional five-year, 1-mill levy in Marietta Township and an additional five-year, 2-mill levy for the East Muskingum Township Fire District, according to Mandy Amos, director of the Washington County Board of Elections.
The board is scheduled to meet Wednesday to certify ballots for the primary election.
The deadline for write-in candidates to file is Feb. 23.
After the latest redistricting, Washington County will be a part of the state’s 2nd Congressional District for the U.S. House of Representatives. It stretches across most of southern Ohio and includes Adams, Athens, Brown, Clermont, Gallia, Hocking, Jackson, Lawrence, Meigs, Morgan, Pike, Ross, Scioto and Vinton counties, plus part of Perry County.
According to the Clermont County Board of Elections, incumbent Rep. David Taylor will face Bob Carr in the Republican primary. The crowded Democratic primary for the seat includes Andrew Gage, Brian Kenderes, Jen Mazzuckelli and Todd Wilson
The deadline to register to vote in Ohio’s primary is April 6.
In West Virginia, the final deadline to file for local, state and federal races in West Virginia was Saturday, Jan. 31 with both the Wood County County Clerk’s Office and the West Virginia Secretary of State offices
Early voting in West Virginia will be April 29 through May 9 at the Judge Black Annex in Parkersburg. Community early voting sites will be open May 5-9 at the Williamstown City Building, the Vienna Community Building, the Mineral Wells Volunteer Fire Department and the Lubeck Volunteer Fire Department.
Absentee ballot applications are being accepted through May 6. Ballots will be mailed out through May 7.
The deadline to register to vote is April 21.
West Virginia is voting on a U.S. Senate seat and a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives with incumbents Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., and Riley Moore, R-W.Va., running respectively with Capito facing five Republican challengers for the primary election while Moore is unchallenged in the Republican primary. The winner of that race will face one of three potential Democratic challengers for the seat.
Delegate Bob Fehrenbacher, R-11th, is running for the State Senate in the seat currently held by Republican Mike Azinger who is seeking reelection. Former Wood County Sheriff Jeff Sandy and Parkersburg City Council President Andrew Borkowski are facing off for the seat in the Republican primary. The winner will face Democrat Daniel Miller.
Wood County Commissioner Bob Tebay has decided not to seek re-election. Wood County Sheriff Rick Woodyard will be facing Republicans Jarrod Gard and Greg Bannon in the primary.
The Wood County Board of Education will have three open seats up. Voters can elect 1 from District A, 1 from District B and 1 from District C; or 2 from District C and 1 from District A or 1 from District B. A total of nine people are vying for the seats.
