PARKERSBURG — Charges are pending from an accident on Sunday night on Interstate 77 near the 176-mile marker where three Wood County people were injured, the Wood County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.

A 2018 Kia Forte driven by Madeline Ewing, 73, was going south when it crossed the median and into the path of a northbound Freightliner, the sheriff’s office said. Ewing was taken to the hospital in stable condition and a passenger, Raymond Witten, 82, was hospitalized in critical condition, the office said.

The driver of the Freightliner, Susan Lemmo, 65, was uninjured, the sheriff’s office said.

Lemmo attempted to avoid the collision by braking and changing lanes, but the Kia struck the side of the trailer before coming to rest in the median, the sheriff’s office said. The 176 mile marker is the Seventh Street exit.

Charges pending against Ewing include crossing the median, driving left of center, failure to maintain control and reckless driving. Deputy B.G. Turner is leading the criminal investigation.

Starting at $2.99/week.
