South Carolina man killed in Meigs County collision with tractor trailer
MARIETTA — One man was killed Friday night in an accident in Meigs County, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
Anthony Delong, 35, of Surfside Beach, S.C., was killed when the 2016 Dodge Durango he was driving collided with a 1994 Peterbilt tractor trailer driven by Kenny Mast, 28, Sugarcreek, Ohio, the patrol said.
Mast was in the eastbound lane on U.S. 33 where he was attempting to back into a private lot along the road, the patrol said. Mast backed across the westbound lane of Route 33 where Delong, driving west on Route 33, struck the rear of the trailer, the patrol said.
Delong was pronounced dead at the scene by the Meigs County Coroner, the patrol said. Mast was treated at the scene by Meigs County EMS.
The road was closed for about four hours.
Other agencies on scene included the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office, the Lebanon Township Fire Department. The Ohio Department of Transportation in Meigs County and the Anderson McDaniel Funeral Home.
The accident happened shortly before 7 p.m. and remains under investigation.
