PARKERSBURG — It has been three years since Gretchen Fleming disappeared but local law enforcement is still following leads and other information trying to find a resolution in the case.

Parkersburg Police Chief Matthew Board said the case remains “active.”

It was three years ago today (Dec. 12, 2022) when her family reported her missing. Fleming, a Parkersburg High School graduate, was 27 years old and living with her grandparents in Vienna when she disappeared.

Police determined she was last seen at the My Way Lounge at Fifth and Juliana streets in the early morning hours of Dec. 4, 2022. They identified a person of interest, but that person has not been charged in connection with the case.

The case is still being investigated on a daily basis, Board said.

The Parkersburg Police still have a detective whose primary assignment is to work on that investigation while continuing with their other case work, but this case remains the detective’s primary responsibility.

“Some believe that because a case has been investigated for an extended amount of time does not make it cold or inactive,” Board said. “It is still very active.

“Within the last few months we have garnered information and evidence that are encouraging and moving us towards answers for Gretchen and her family.”

Police have remained in close contact with Fleming’s family.

“Our hearts still go out to them,” Board said as a couple of people in that family have passed over the past couple years, her grandmother Louise in 2024 and her father David in 2025.

“Their resolve and their faith is a testament to what kind of family they are,” Board said. “We continue to search for answers for them.”

In May the FBI’s Pittsburgh office shared a missing poster seeking assistance in finding Fleming on its Facebook page.

The poster describes Fleming as 5-foot-2 and weighing 125 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. It does not limit the geographical scope of its plea, directing anyone with information concerning her to contact their local FBI office or the nearest American embassy or consulate.

Those with any information are encouraged to contact local law enforcement. The Parkersburg Police Department can be contacted at 304-424-8444. Anonymous tips may be left online at ppd.parkersburgwv.gov.
