PARKERSBURG – Two men from the Akron area were arrested Friday night on narcotics charges, the Parkersburg Police Department said.
Detectives from the department, agents with the Parkersburg Narcotics Task Force and patrol officers were on surveillance in an ongoing investigation involving illicit controlled substances being transported into West Virginia from Ohio, the department said on its social media site.
Detectives observed Gibraun Gooden, 19, and an unknown person later identified as Jamier Gooden, 22, both of Akron, arrive at a location in Parkersburg, the department said. Detectives and Task Force agents were familiar with Gibraun Gooden from prior investigations.
After being in Parkersburg for a short period of time, a vehicle arrived at their location and the two men got into the backseat of the vehicle, the department said.
A traffic stop was conducted on West Virginia 95 by a patrol officer, which eventually led to a police dog sniff and indication on the vehicle, the department said. About 100 grams of suspected heroin/fentanyl, about 18 grams of suspected crack cocaine, about 12 grams of suspected methamphetamine and a small amount of marijuana were found in the search, the department said.
Also located were items consistent with the packaging and distribution of illicit controlled substances, the department said. All items were located either on the person of the two subjects or within items that the subjects were observed carrying earlier, the department said.
Gibraun Good and Jamier Gooden were taken into custody and charged with transporting controlled substances into the state for distribution and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
Bond was set at $200,000 for each in Wood County Magistrate Court, which they did not post. Both were taken to the North Central Regional Jail.
