PARKERSBURG – The Wood County Board of Education is expected to receive a gift of land from the West Virginia University at Parkersburg Foundation and WVUP President Torie Jackson on Tuesday to build the new Vienna Elementary School.

The new school is being built on the former Ohio Valley University campus, now the new West Virginia University at Parkersburg Innovation and Technology Center, and will encompass approximately 54,000 square feet, providing space for 522 students.

During the Nov. 4 meeting, Katie Wetherby, McKinley Architecture and Engineering senior architectural staff/associate project manager, said the base bid will have an 1,800 square foot activity space and an alternate that will allow for a 6,800 square foot gym.

Construction is slated to commence this winter pending successful bidding, with the opening of the new school aimed for April or May 2027.

The board will also hear an update on the Madison Elementary addition by Ryan Taylor, president and CEO of Pickering Associates, and a non-traditional instruction day update by Ashlee Beatty, director of curriculum and instruction.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the Bailey Board Room located at 1210 13th St. The meeting is open to the public and will be streamed online.
