PARKERSBURG – The city of Parkersburg’s Urban Renewal Authority on Tuesday will consider multiple bids for one property and a new offer for another after they tabled the prospective buyer’s first overture.
Members of Parkersburg City Council will convene as the URA after the regular council meeting, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in council chambers, wraps up.
The city received three bids for a URA-owned structure and lot at 1401 St. Marys Ave., as well as a fourth set to be considered at a future meeting.
Bobby Burnley bid $10,000 for the property, saying in his application he planned to remodel it into a residential dwelling he would occupy at an estimated cost of $5,000.
Michael Brown bid $6,500 and proposes renovating the structure for an estimated $28,500 to remodel as a base for his landscaping and contracting business.
Brandon Parsons, who owns an adjacent property, bid $3,500 and proposes remodeling the structure as a family residence. His bid did not include a cost estimate for renovations.
A fourth bid, from Kendra Emrick for $2,500 to occupy or rent the structure as a residential dwelling, came in after the deadline, but Development Director Ryan Barber said officials wanted to make URA members aware there was an additional offer. It would be considered at the Nov. 25 authority meeting.
The authority received a bid of $4,000 from Mike Williams, owner of neighboring iTech, for a vacant lot at 318 Fifth St. The authority voted in September to table Williams’ initial offer of $3,000, which some members called low considering they spent $50,000 to acquire the property via eminent domain and $146,000 to demolish it.
Williams said in the September application he wanted to use the property to allow for more growth for iTech and add an estimated 10 employees over the next two years. He proposed building a 2,000-square-foot brick structure with a $200,000 investment.
The URA will also be asked to approve demolition of a structure it owns at 1239 Lynn St.
