Interstate planners seek public input on transportation

PARKERSBURG — The WWW Interstate Planning Commission, of which Wood and Washington counties are members, is taking comments and preparing its Horizon 2050 Long-Range Transportation Plan for the Parkersburg and Marietta region.

The commission is seeking comments about current transportation conditions, concerns, needs, and opportunities.

More about the planning process and comment is available several ways. The online Virtual Meeting Room at https://horizon2050lrtp.org/ contains information related to the plan update and to complete a transportation survey and provide comments.

In-person public meetings will be held from 3-5 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Parkersburg and Wood County Public Library, 3100 Emerson Ave., and from 3-6 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Washington County Public Library, 615 Fifth St., Marietta.

Residents also can call, email or visit by calling ahead for an appointment. Questions, comments and more obtain information and a transportation survey can be directed to Vincent Post III, director of transportation planning, 709 Market St., Parkersburg, WV 26101, (304) 699-3721 and email at vince.post@triplew.org.

As the federally designated Metropolitan Planning Organization for the Parkerburg and Marietta region, the commission is required to produce a long-range transportation plan and update it every four years. The plan will identify recommended improvements to the transportation system through 2050 and consider needs related to roads and bridges, public transit, bikeways and walkways, rail, maritime transportation and aviation.

A summary of the comments submitted and how they are being considered by the project team or incorporated into the plan development will be posted to the project website about 30 days after the close of the online comments.

Additional opportunities for public comment will occur later in the planning process.

Those with special needs or disabilities and want assistance with the material or to request a hard copy of the information provided on the online virtual meeting room, contact Post.

Starting at $2.99/week.
