Two Parkersburg High School students taken into custody over alleged threats

PARKERSBURG — A release from Wood County Schools said the district responded to a potential threat at Parkersburg High School Sunday.
The release said on the evening of Saturday, Sept. 13, Wood County Schools received information regarding a potential threat directed at Parkersburg High School (PHS) for Monday, Sept. 15. In response, the release said the Wood County Sheriff’s Department acted swiftly and placed the two students alleged to be involved into custody on Sunday. It said the Wood County Prosecutor’s Office also responded decisively to the situation.
Messages were sent out to the parents and guardians of PHS students Sunday saying the matter is being thoroughly investigated, and that the students allegedly involved have been identified and will not be present at school while the investigation continues.
The messages said to help everyone feel secure as classes resume, “please know that the Parkersburg Police Department maintains an open line of communication with Wood County Schools. Their continued presence and partnership reinforce our shared commitment to student safety.”
The release said Wood County Schools extends its sincere appreciation to both the Wood County Sheriff’s Department and the Prosecutor’s Office for their prompt and diligent response. It said their efforts have helped ensure the safety of “our students as they return to school.”
It said Wood County Schools takes all safety concerns seriously and remains committed to maintaining a secure learning environment for all students and staff.
“Thank you to our community for its continued support as we prioritize the safety and well-being of our students and staff,” the release said.
