Parkersburg City Council, Finance Committee meet today

PARKERSBURG -- The only item on Tuesday's Parkersburg City Council agenda is a budget revision for federal funds.
The resolution will first be considered by members of the Finance Committee at 6:30 p.m. in the executive conference room on the second floor of the Municipal Building. Its presence on the agenda for the full council session at 7:30 p.m. in council chambers is pending approval by that committee.
The proposed resolution would move all but $2,000 of $97,583 originally budgeted for Americans with Disabilities Act infrastructure upgrades in city parks to the Community Oriented Police Enforcement program. The remaining money would go to the Fire Department's Sound the Alarm initiative, which provides free smoke alarms to homes with no or insufficient alarms.
Notes with the meeting agenda say the ADA upgrade project, for which $205,000 was originally budgeted, added an accessible walkway near the Southwood Park pond. Because the project came in under budget, the administration is asking for the remaining funds to be reappropriated.
The Community Oriented Police Enforcement program is intended to enhance services in low- to moderate-income areas. It supports an officer patrolling in those areas and also funds the department's bike patrols.
