Athens County auto accident claims woman’s life

ATHENS COUNTY — One person is dead following a head-on collision in Athens County Sunday morning, the Athens Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
Monica Leigh Perani, 27, of Corning, Ohio, in Perry County, was traveling northwest on State Route 682 in a 2024 Nissan Sentra when her vehicle was struck head-on by a 2016 Ram 1500 pick-up that went left of center, the patrol said. The pick-up was being driven by Paul Richard Biehl, 69, of Athens, the patrol said.
The accident occurred shortly before 9:30 a.m. just south of Wildwood Lane on Route 682 in Athens Township, the patrol said.
Perani was pronounced dead at the scene by the Athens County Coroners Office, the patrol said. Biehl was taken to OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital in Athens with non-life-threatening injuries by the Athens County EMS, the patrol said.
The crash remains under investigation, the patrol said. Both drivers were wearing safety belts and alcohol is not suspected, the patrol said.
Troopers were assisted by the Athens County Sheriff Office, the Athens Police Department, Athens County Fire Department, The Plains Fire Department, Athens County EMS, Athens County Coroner’s Office and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
