Vienna City Council approves appointments

VIENNA — Vienna City Council approved several actions during its regular meeting Thursday night.

Council approved a pair of resolutions re-appointing Barbara Joyce to the Vienna Board of Parks and Recreation and appointing M.J. Ayson-Lemon to the same board.

Council approved a resolution consenting to the assignment of the Development Agreement for the Tax Increment Finance program. Under the resolution, the city consents to the assignment by Grand Central Parkersburg LLC of its rights and obligations under the TIF agreement to Cafaro GC Mall LLC.

Council approved a resolution for the city of Vienna authorizing participation in the Purdue Pharma Bankruptcy Plan, the Sackler Family Settlement, and additional opioid defendant settlements.

Council approved the first reading of an ordinance amending Section 311.04 of the Codified Ordinances of the City of Vienna relating to driving on play streets.

Under the amended ordinance, no person shall operate a motor vehicle upon any play street at a speed greater than 15 mph, except emergency vehicles when responding to an emergency call. A former restriction limiting access to vehicles with business or residence within the closed area is repealed.

The ordinance will also include steps to remove the play street designation and return it to a regular street in the future in case population changes show that children no longer live on that street.

A second reading will be held at a future council meeting.

The Vienna City Building will be closed Monday for Labor Day. The next council meeting will be Thursday, Sept. 11, at 6 p.m.

Starting at $2.99/week.
