NEW MATAMORAS — A single-motorcycle crash involving a fatality occurred on June 27 at approximately 3:30 a.m is currently being investigated by the Marietta Patrol Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred on State Route 7 near Milepost 54 in Grandview Township.

According to a release from the highway patrol, Tyler Humphrey, 19, of Newport, was driving a 2025 Suzuki GSX-R750 southbound on S.R. 7 when the motorcycle traveled off the right side of the roadway.

Humphrey was separated from the motorcycle as it overturned and struck a ditch. According to the release, investigators say they suspect speed is a contributing factor in the crash.

Responding to the scene was the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Grandview Township Volunteer Fire Department and squad, Washington County Coroner’s Office and Shea Towing.
