PARKERSBURG — The Wood County Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of a man found July 4 in the Ohio River.

In a Facebook post, officials reported the body of a man found on July 4 in the Ohio River has been identified as Thomas Vernon Basim, 45, of Belpre.

Basim’s family was notified of the death, the post reported. The West Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office indicated there were no signs of foul play and Basim’s death was attributed to drowning, the post said.
