PARKERSBURG — The Wood County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports for May 1-4:
May 1
* Deputies responded to the Go Mart located on Elizabeth Pike in reference to a female slumped over the steering wheel at the gas pump. The female was asked if there was anything illegal in the vehicle she knew of, with her stating there could be. Drugs were located along with smoking apparatuses and a scale. Vanessa Rose Varner, 28, of Crown Manor Circle, was arrested on two counts of possession of a controlled substance. She was transported to the Holding Center for processing, arraigned before a magistrate where she was given a $6,000 bond and placed back into the Holding Center. The vehicle was towed and the dog was taken to the Humane Society.
* A citation was issued to Jennifer Marcella McGowan, 41, of Veto Road, Belpre, for red light violation.
* A citation was issued to Teresa Marie Biles, 50, of Olive Street, for second-offense driving on suspended/revoked and no insurance.
* A deputy responded to Harris Highway in reference to a destruction of property. The complainant/victim reported that someone had thrown a rock through his window. The window was observed broken with a rock on the floor.
* A deputy responded to I-77 in the area of mm 174 southbound in reference to a vehicle crash. The driver stated he was in the process of moving to Mineral Wells and while traveling southbound the vehicle hydroplaned into the concrete median barrier causing his truck to roll over onto its roof. The driver was transported by EMS with the vehicle being towed. Crash report taken.
May 2
* Deputies responded to I-77 northbound rest area around the 165 mile marker in reference to a single vehicle crash. Central Dispatch informed that the driver was at the rest stop covered in mud and grass. The vehicle and the male were located with the male subject becoming agitated with the deputy. Donald Mitchel Bennett, 45, of Sucky Street, Paris, Ohio, was arrested on a charge of third-offense DUI. It was determined that the vehicle had been traveling southbound on I-77 when it veered into the median, crossed into oncoming traffic and then entered the northbound exit of the rest stop. The driver was transported to the Holding Center for processing, arraigned and placed back into the Holding Center.
* Deputies responded to Harris Highway in reference to a vehicle crash where the vehicle had nearly rolled over into the creek. The driver stated she had stopped along the berm to move a turtle out of the road, in backing up along the berm she drove too close to the edge and the vehicle slid into the embankment towards the creek. No injuries were reported and the only damage to the vehicle was a bent piece of plastic stripping along the bottom edge of the front end.
* A vehicle crash was reported at Lakeview Drive/Murdoch Avenue involving two vehicles. A citation was issued to Richard Denver Hill, 31, of Roseland Avenue, for no insurance.
* A citation was issued to Jonathan Lee Wingrove, 44, of Butler Street, for speeding 84 in a 55 mph construction zone.
* Citations were issued to George Alan Barnhart, 62, of Newbanks Road, for no insurance, improper registration, driving on suspended/revoked and defective equipment.
* A deputy responded to U.S. 50 mile marker 3.5 in reference to a vehicle crash. The driver stated while traveling eastbound he hit water in the roadway, lost control and hit the embankment. The vehicle was observed with minor damage to the front bumper. The vehicle was pulled back onto the roadway and was driven from the scene.
* Gregory Allen Hutson Jr., 26, of Johnson Run Road, was arrested on a warrant for violation of a domestic violence protective order. He was transported to the Holding Center for processing, arraigned before a magistrate where he was given a $500 cash bond. As he was unable to post bond he was placed back into the Holding Center.
* A citation was issued to Nathan Allen Sams, 35, of Suzanne Street, for driving on suspended/revoked.
May 3
* Adam Spencer Jarvis, 28, of Roseland Avenue, was arrested on a warrant for no insurance and improper registration issued through the Wood County Sheriff Department as he had been issued a citation in April 2024 and had not appeared on it. He was transported to the Holding Center and confined pending his arraignment.
* Deputies responded to Crown Manor Circle in reference to a capias for failure to appear on charges of DUI-Drugs and possession of a controlled substance without a valid prescription. David Bradley Moyers, 43, of Crown Manor Circle, was served and arrested on the capias. He was transported to the Holding Center and placed pending his arraignment.
* A citation was issued to Marsha Ann Lane, 40, of Wadesville Road for Expired Registration (7/2024).
Citation issued to David Lee Malcomb age 57 of Williamstown Pike, for no seatbelt and expired registration.
* A citation was issued to Shaun Christopher Hammer, 40, of 16th Street, for no proof of insurance and expired MVI.
* A traffic stop was conducted after the vehicle was observed to have an expired registration. Upon contact with the driver the deputy detected the odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle and observed a clear plastic sandwich bag tucked near the driver lap. The driver surrendered the marijuana to the deputy. A citation was issued to Charles Edward Atkinson, 40, of Erie Street, for possession of a controlled substance and expired registration.
* A traffic stop was conducted with Brian Robert Sanders, 47, of Lenore Street, being arrested on a charge of possession of a controlled substance. He was transported to the Holding Center for processing and placed. The vehicle was towed due to no insurance and no one to remove the vehicle from the scene.
* A traffic stop was conducted after the vehicle was observed having an expired MVI. The driver, Alan Christopher Johnston, 44, of Grand Central Avenue, was issued a citation for no operators and expired MVI. The passenger, Marketta Jo Johnston, 40, of Grand Central Avenue, was arrested on a Family Court Capias for failure to pay child support. She was transported to the Holding Center for processing and placed.
* A deputy responded to Lee Creek Road and Harris Highway to assist NRP Officer with a domestic disturbance that he had happened upon while patrolling the area. A local check showed that the male had a warrant on file. Donnie Clavel McCumbers III, 41, of Lee Creek Road, was arrested on the warrant for domestic battery from an incident on April 27 issued through the Wood County Sheriff Office. He was transported to the Holding Center for processing and placed.
* A citation was issued to Nathan Alan Brand, 59, of Chestnut Street, for expired registration and no MVI.
* Citations were issued to Kayla Nichole Hemingway, 35, of Vaughan Avenue, for no MVI, no seatbelt, improper registration, no insurance and driving on suspended/revoked.
* A citation was issued to Britani Nicole Robison, 34, of Gihon Road, for expired MVI and expired registration.
* A citation was issued to Hunter Riley Thomas, 21, of Otter Run Road, Ravenswood, for no operators.
* A citation was issued to Dale Roger Thorn, 59, of Dry Run Road, for third-offense driving on suspended/revoked.
May 4
* Deputies responded to I-77 at the 158 mile marker in reference to a semi rollover. Deputies arrived and observed the semi-trailer to be on its driver side of the roadway to the right. The driver was treated by EMS having cuts on his arms however refused transport. Apparently the driver fell asleep and veered off the roadway to the right striking the embankment which caused the tractor and trailer to roll over.
* A citation was issued to Andrew Keith Lawrentz, 57, of Woodstone Road, for passing in a no passing zone.
* A deputy responded to Holeshot Drive in reference to a larceny of a dirt bike. The victim/complainant reported that the KTM SX-E5 dirt bike was in the garage and upon returning to the house the dirt bike was gone. At this time investigation is ongoing and the dirt bike has been entered into NCIC.
* A citation was issued to James Lewis Farnsworth, 44, of Soyer Street, for expired registration and expired MVI.
* A traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle and upon contact with the driver and passenger the deputy detected the odor of marijuana emitting from inside the vehicle. The female pulled out a clear plastic baggie containing a green leafy substance from her purse turning it over to the deputy. The driver was issued a verbal warning for the expired registration and a citation was issued to Brooke Lynn Young, 24, of Division Street, for possession of a controlled substance.
* A citation was issued to Brendon Michael Post, 23, of Meadville Road, for speeding 75 in a 65 mph zone and no insurance.
