PARKERSBURG — Two people are dead following a vehicle accident Tuesday evening along U.S. 50.

The Wood County Sheriff’s Department responded around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to Mile Marker 7 along U.S. 50, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page.

Gregory Nightengale, of Proctorville, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene and Veronica Yoho, of Monaca, Pa., was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead shortly thereafter, according to a Facebook post by the department Wednesday afternoon.

A 2013 Dodge Journey driven by Jimmy Godfrey was traveling eastbound on U.S. 50 from the Division Street entrance ramp. A 2008 Ford Focus driven by Yoho was traveling westbound on U.S. 50.

“The Ford Focus lost control due to wet roadways, excessive speed relative to the weather conditions, and the poor tire conditions of the vehicle,” the post said. “The Ford Focus fishtailed before crossing the median and entering the eastbound lanes where it was then struck on the passenger side by the Dodge Journey in a right-angle style collision.”

Godfrey as well as two other occupants of the Dodge Journey were transported to the hospital by ambulance.

In addition to units from the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, members of the Parkersburg Police Department, Parkersburg Fire Department and Camden Clark Ambulance Service responded to the scene.
