PARKERSBURG — Signs and posters offering a reward for information about Gretchen Fleming remain visible around the community more than two years after she was last seen leaving the My Way Lounge in downtown Parkersburg.
This week, the FBI’s Pittsburgh office shared a missing poster seeking assistance in finding the Vienna resident on its Facebook page.
The poster describes Fleming as 5-foot-2 and weighing 125 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. It does not limit the geographical scope of its plea, directing anyone with information concerning her to contact their local FBI office or the nearest American embassy or consulate.
“The FBI and our law enforcement partners continue to pursue the case based on a well-defined investigative strategy,” according to a statement provided Friday by the Pittsburgh office. “As with all investigations, that strategy can be adjusted and refined based on the results of ongoing leads, which can include information received through public outreach. The FBI appreciates the public’s attention to this case and, along with our partners at the Parkersburg Police Department, continues to encourage those with information, even if they’re not certain of its value, to come forward by contacting the Parkersburg Police Department, or the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or online at tips.fbi.gov.”
Fleming, a Parkersburg High School graduate, was 27 years old and living with her grandparents in Vienna when her family reported her missing on Dec. 12, 2022. Police determined she was last seen at the My Way Lounge at Fifth and Juliana streets in the early morning hours of Dec. 4. They identified a person of interest in the case, but that person has not been charged in connection with the case.
Parkersburg Police Chief Matthew Board said the release of the poster is a continuation of the collaboration between local and federal authorities regarding Fleming’s disappearance.
“The purpose of this information being put on their Facebook page and the release being made was to keep Gretchen fresh in people’s minds — because I assure you this case is fresh in our mind — in hopes that it will garner more information,” he said.
Board said the term “cold case” has become something of a catchphrase and it’s not one that is used at the local department for this or other cases.
“There is work being done on this case every day,” he said, adding that he could not go into specifics about the ongoing investigation. “This has been a lengthy investigation, and leads continue to be followed as they come in.”
