PARKERSBURG — A Waverly man was arrested Tuesday following a high-speed pursuit that ended in a crash.

Jason Wilkinson, 38, is charged with fleeing with reckless indifference, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is in custody at the North Central Regional Jail in Doddridge County on a $100,000 bond.

According to a press release from Parkersburg Police Chief Matthew Board, the pursuit began Tuesday afternoon when a city police officer spotted a motorcycle that was spray painted and lacked visible registration in the 1300 block of Plum Street. As the officer began to follow the vehicle, the rider, later identified as Wilkinson, looked over his shoulder and fled at a high rate of speed, the release said.

The pursuit continued north through the city, with Wilkinson allegedly running multiple stop signs and driving in an erratic manner.

In the 1000 block of Old St. Marys Pile, Wilkinson lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into the wood line along the road, the release said. He was taken into custody without further incident.

A search led to the discovery of 26 grams of methamphetamine in his possession, as well as a 9-millimeter pistol, the release said.

He was arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court.

Starting at $2.99/week.
