Wood County Sheriff’s Office releases names from Williamstown shooting

PARKERSBURG — The Wood County Sheriff’s Office has released new details regarding a fatal shooting incident Tuesday in Williamstown, including the identities of those involved.
In a Facebook post Friday, authorities said on Tuesday at 10:52 a.m. deputies were dispatched to 158 Maple Drive, Williamstown, regarding a shooting.
Upon their arrival, a male identified as Matthew Allen Bills, 37, was found dead of apparent gunshot wounds on the scene located in the rear of his residence.
When deputies entered the dwelling to check for further victims or suspects they discovered a female identified as Barbra Leanne Cupp, 32, who was in a relationship with Bills. Deputies immediately extracted Cupp from the residence, taking her to an ambulance staged near the scene.
Upon concluding the search of the residence no other persons were found. Cupp was taken to WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center by Camden Clark Ambulance medics. She was injured by a gunshot wound to the upper shoulder and was unresponsive at the time.
Cupp remains in stable condition at CCMC. The incident remains under investigation.
