WILLIAMSTOWN — A Williamstown man is in jail after allegedly trying to disarm law enforcement officers attempting to take him into custody Wednesday.
Williamstown Police responded to a 911 hangup call in the area of Highland Avenue and West Third Street early Wednesday morning, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page.
Scott Allen Jones, 41, of Williamstown, was found walking in the lot of Da Vinci’s restaurant around 3:41 a.m. and approached by Williamstown Police Sgt. J.L. Ruble, the post said. Jones reportedly dropped a plastic bag containing suspected methamphetamine and was told he was under arrest.
As Ruble and Wood County Sheriff’s Sgt. R.A. Waters attempted to take him into custody, Jones reportedly resisted and grabbed both their duty weapons, the post said. Two Washington County Sheriff’s deputies arrived to assist and Jones was eventually placed in the back of a Williamstown Police cruiser.
The post said Jones allegedly maneuvered his handcuffs from behind his back and attempted to removed a shotgun that was secured and locked.
At that point, Jones was further restrained and taken to WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center for medical clearance, the post said.
Jones was later arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court on three felony counts of attempting to disarm a police officer and was being held at the North Central Regional Jail in Doddridge County on a $150,000 cash bond.
