Two arrested after afternoon pursuit in Parkersburg

PARKERSBURG — A Paden City man and Parkersburg woman were arrested Wednesday afternoon following a pursuit.

According to a press release from the Parkersburg Narcotics Task Force, agents attempted a traffic stop of a Chevrolet Aveo around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday on Seventh Street near Hardee’s in Parkersburg. The vehicle fled, and a pursuit ensued.

The vehicle came to a stop after striking a utility pole near 14th and Plum streets. The driver then attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended, the release said.

The driver was identified as Christopher W. Smith, 34, of Paden City, and he was charged with fleeing in a vehicle with reckless disregard, along with a warrant for simple possession out of Wetzel County, the release said.

A passenger in the vehicle, Sarah Ann Davis, 28, of Parkersburg, was charged with simple possession, while a third passenger was released, the release said.

Bond information for the suspects was not immediately available.

The Parkersburg Narcotics Task Force is comprised of officers from the West Virginia State Police, Wood County Sheriff’s Office and Parkersburg and Vienna Police Departments.
