PARKERSBURG — A Parkersburg resident was arrested today after allegedly making threats.

At approximately 6:15 a.m. today, Police Chief Matthew Board reported, the Parkersburg Police Department received a call from an individual claiming to be armed and making credible threats that raised concerns for both his safety and that of the public.

Shortly after the initial call, reports of gunshots from the area, the 1400 block of 15th Avenue, were made. Officers were dispatched and arrived on the scene within minutes, promptly establishing control in the vicinity of the residence in question, he said.

The Parkersburg Police Department’s SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiation Team were also deployed to assist in the situation. After approximately four hours of negotiations and tactical efforts, the subject surrendered and exited the residence. He was taken into custody without further incident by SWAT officers, he said.

Board said the Wood County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the incident and he expressed thanks to them.

The incident remains an active investigation, and additional details will be released as they become available, Board said Thursday afternoon.
